Addressing the Opioid Epidemic
The AHCAP Education Committee presents a very important topic for us all. We urge you to share this webinar with other staff at your facility, invite physicians, staff and your administrator to join you in attending. The session will be one hour, but the webinar line will stay open for extra time to answer questions.
Date: May 10, 2018
Time: 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Eastern
Presenter: Dr. Joseph Bianco, Essentia Health
About the Session: Opioid overdoses cause more deaths in the United States than motor vehicle accidents, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports. An estimated 50 million Americans suffer from chronic pain and rely on these prescription painkillers for relief. Opioids are highly addictive, and their use and abuse has become a public health threat.
Essentia Health believes the widespread use of opioids has a negative impact on the patients and communities we serve. That’s why Essentia Health focused an initiative around the opioid crisis. Calling for evidence-based and socially responsible use of opioids in the treatment of non-cancer acute and chronic pain.
Thanks to the work of Essentia Health-Duluth Clinic Physicians and a system-wide multi-disciplinary steering committee, Essentia Health has positioned itself as a community leader in reducing the use of opioids. Dr. Joe Bianco will share this journey as Essentia Health is continuing to stay the course in achieving health and vitality in our community to overcome this epidemic.
